About Camel Spiders
Some tourists in Middle
East are scared of its exotic creatures. Spiders are not commonly seen
in Middle East. For all we know, spiders may contain harmful substances
than can spoil a person. On the other hand, some spiders are harmless.
In fact, some soldiers from the US fears this little creature. The
scientific name for camel spiders is Solifugids. Camel spiders are named
solifugids for they are fast crawlers. These spiders are able to live in
dry and sandy areas like the desert. These spiders can be found in
Northern Africa and in the Middle East.
Experts say that the speed
of a camel spider is 10 – 25 miles per hour. The structural size of this
creature is 5 – 12 inches. Some soldiers from the Middle East posted
some photos in the internet to show how big this creature is. However,
the size is a little bit different from the actual ones. They usually
come out on nighttime and are attracted to lights. Therefore, some
rumors say that this little creature is a “Night Crawler”. However, just
like humans, they seek shed in order to survive the heat of the dessert.
For all we know, there are no trees or shed in the desert that makes the
temperature high. Consequently, they came out in nighttime in order to
avoid the extreme heat of the sun.

There are different rumors
that this spider is capable of killing a human. However, some research
proves that these spiders are not that harmless. The pictures from
different sites are post by some soldiers who were assigned in Middle
East is somehow true. On the other hand, these spiders are not to bite
unless they are annoyed. Like other creatures, they usually defend
themselves in order to survive. If you encountered this creature, it is
better to leave the spider alone to avoid commotion.
Camel spiders can be
classified as carnivores. They usually eat creatures and animals like,
insects, termites, spiders and even small birds. However, these
creatures are not that strong enough to eat a human. The structural
appearance of this spider is ½ - 3 inches. They have 2 clear eyes and
five racket organs. The camel spiders feature resembles with the
scorpion. However, scorpions have clippers and sting tail. The hairs on
its body are like receptors that can sense vibration. The reason why
they can escape or run fast is that they are able to sense whether
someone is coming.

As mentioned earlier, camel spider’s structure is
different from scorpions and other breeds of spider. They do not have
silk glands and venom. Camel spider’s use their powerful jaw in chewing
and killing their pray. Unlike scorpions, they sting their pray in order
to for them to paralyze and eat their prey. On the other hand, atypical
spider use its silk glands in order to trap and suffocate their pray.
Some people say that camel spiders produce a hissing sound due to the
grinding of their teeth. |
